So as you will notice, I have once again changed the name of the substack. I originally thought that posts on blacksmithing projects would be a regular thing here, but as I have had little time to dedicate to it I think it fitting to put it aside for now. I will probably create a new newsletter featuring smithing projects once I pick it back up.
The newsletter has, much like my book, began to focus specifically on the Hen Ogledd, and more specifically towards the Coeling (Coel Hen and his descendants), and the largely forgotten role this dynasty played in the Brythonic Heroic age. Arthur is of course still a major part of the work done here, and we will still discuss him at length, even in contexts outside of the Coeling prince Arthrwys ap Mar and the Hen Ogledd, discussing other components of the later composite Arthur.
Other dynasties will still feature here, with an article looking at Alt Clut and it’s relationship with the Gododdin and the Picts coming out in the next week or so. You are all also in for a treat as well,
has contributed his massive article looking at Arthur’s 12 battles given by Nennius from a new perspective. It is available currently on twitter, but he is allowing me to post it here for all of you fine people as well.I may start working on an article looking at the Picts in the 5th through the 7th centuries, as well as the Scots of Dal Riata. In addition I am still working on my paid course/series looking at the various sources for the Brythonic Heroic age. It is taking longer than expected (doesn’t everything?) but I want to make sure this is the most thorough writing I can possibly do.
The book is still in the works, and I have made some significant rewrites recently. I do have a small question to ask my readers here, would you enjoy a sort of ‘miscellany’ section after the main text of the book, with prior writings of mine that may not have made it into the book directly?
As always, thank you for subscribing and reading!
Really looking forward to new articles from you. Your content is top-tier. I will be buying that book the second its available.
Truly excited for anything about Alt Clut, the Picts, and Dal Riata. My clan is a Hebridean clan, so the lands and histories of Dal Riata are entrenched in my mind. Would love to learn more, specifically from the unique and learned perspective you bring to the table.
Hail Aurochs!
A rose by any other name! Thank you!
